The 2023 Ballon d’Or winner is Lionel Messi, who has won the trophy for a record-breaking eighth time.

Messi, who is currently playing for Inter Miami, helped his nation win the World Cup in 2017 when he took home the trophy for the first time and was named the tournament’s best player in Qatar by the Golden Ball award.
In addition to winning the Ballon d’Or from Karim Benzema of France in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2019, 2021, and 2023 the 36-year-old did it again.

With this victory, the former Barcelona forward widens his advantage over five-time winner Cristiano Ronaldo. For the first time since 2003, the 38-year-old Portugal international, who plays for Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, was not included on the shortlist.

Messi moved from Paris Saint-Germain, where he won the Ligue 1 title in both seasons, to Inter Miami, an MLS team, at the end of the previous season, leaving European football behind.

Messi accepted the trophy from Inter Miami owner and 1999 Ballon d’Or runner-up David Beckham, and the Argentine star said this would be his final Ballon d’Or victory.

“Everything I’ve accomplished It’s amazing to win these individual trophies, especially considering the fortune I’ve had playing for the greatest team in history—the finest team in the world. It’s incredible to win the World Cup after winning the Copa America.

“It felt great to win the global championship. But the reality is, I’ve never really adjusted to standing on this stage and accepting prizes.

I have gradually become accustomed to it since I won it for the first time in 2009. It feels calmer and I will appreciate it differently because I believe this is the last time I will win it.

“I’m happy with my professional history. I’ve always loved football, and I’ll soon be enjoying it from the other side.”
“In football, things may change drastically day by day, so I can’t put a number on it. However, I am aware that the day is drawing nearer and closer.
